Energy data, models and scenarios with Long Range Energy Alternatives Planning (LEAP) system

Course Description:

Energy scenarios are critical for developing national energy transition policies and strategies. Such scenarios are usually developed with numerical models and require use of large number of data. Students will learn how to develop a baseline and several energy transition scenarios for the electricity sector and a selected end-use sector of a case study country in Central and Eastern Europe using the LEAP software. In addition, they will be introduced to the principal sources of energy data and techniques for using these data.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Understand the role of energy scenarios and models in national energy planning;
  • Be able to locate, access and use qualitative energy data and statistics from a variety of sources;
  • Be able to use LEAP software for scenario planning.
Assessment:

Pass-fail based on class participation
