Course Description: 

This course [held between 16-27 March, 2020] will take up a handful of issues that have arisen in recent years in kinship studies and their place in anthropology, including bioessentialism and the performative nature of kinship, the evolution of kinship and kinship systems, the place of psychology and culture in kinship studies, and the relevance of studies of nonhuman primates to key phenomena, such as incest avoidance.
