MPA students have to complete 10 credits in total over the 2 years of the program; including the mandatory SFI. MPA students have registration priority
MAPP, MAIPA and Mundus MAPP students may choose up to 2 credits of M/E SFI-s if free slots are available
Legal skills of analysis, clear thinking and accurate writing are invaluable for anyone entering the job market. This course provides an opportunity for public policy students to develop practical legal skills that will be of assistance to them in their future careers. The course will focus on some of the skills that support and develop on the other ‘law for public policy students’ courses provided by the instructor. This will include how to analyse legislation and legal texts, how to read a court judgment, locating legal documents and materials (research), the basics of making clear legal arguments and recommendations, formalities for accessing avenues for redress (national & international legal mechanisms), legal analysis and legal drafting (in particular, referencing and accuracy requirements) and negotiation. The main subject-matter focus will be international law (including human rights).
