Course Description:
This course establishes essential theoretical concepts for the linguistic/discursive/rhetorical analysis of political discourse (e.g., discursive strategy, interdiscursivity, discourse-historical context) and provides a hands-on introduction to key methodologies and methods (e.g., nomination/attribution, argumentation, corpus linguistics). In doing so, theory and method are discussed in terms of triangulation as the guiding principle in developing research designs/projects that are not only theoretically informed and empirically sound but – most importantly - problem-oriented.
