This course reviews the history of economic thinking and economic analysis. The course covers following topics: Greek and Medieval Thought, Transformation Period, Petty, Smith, Ricardo, Marx, Menger, Veblen, Keynes, Schumpeter, Friedman, Hayek, and some non-mainstream contemporary thought.
At the completion of this course, students will have gained an understanding of some historically important concepts of the political economy and economics. They will have acquired a broad understanding of the evolution of economic thinking in the long period of time.
Presence in the class consists of 15% of the total grade. Short, not more than one page, two position papers provide 30% of the total grade. Final written exam provides the remaining 55%.
