Graduate Program (& Advanced Certificate) Status
2nd year
Students are required to present an update on their dissertation research after their initial data collection phase at the end of their second year or early in the third year. Students should plan an approximately 15-minute presentation of their research progress, including any changes in the project that took place since defending the prospectus, data collection and analysis, and any problems encountered to date, allowing for about 10-15 minutes of questions. Ideally the supervisor and/or committee members attend the presentation and provide feedback.
Upon completion of the Research Update presentation requirement, students will be able to:
- Report preliminary findings from data collection and analysis
- Reflect on experience gained, problems encountered, and any changes necessary to dissertation research plan
Credit will be awarded on a pass/fail basis once the supervisor has reviewed the preliminary results of the data collection, and the student has presented preliminary results at the PhD/Faculty seminar. Students register for the research update presentation during the term in which they will present.
