In the second term, the student should develop knowledge of the theory or theories that will directly inform his/her research work.
A review of relevant theories and a proposed theoretical framework should be included as part of the draft prospectus due April 1. The student must submit the Completed Theory and Methods Study Program form by April 15.
Students earn 4 ECTS from Theory courses in Year 1. Courses are chosen in consultation with the student’s supervisor. Students may take Theory courses from other departments (Interdepartmental) or choose structured independent study directed by their supervisor (Independent Study).
Upon completing the course, students will be able to:
- Describe the appropriate theoretical framework in the dissertation prospectus draft;
- Engage in the research methods necessary to complete the dissertation.
The student must submit the completed Theory and Methods Study program form by April 15, and a review of relevant theories and proposed theoretical framework should be included as part of the literature review due April 1.
Credits for the Theory Study Courses are awarded when the supervisor approves the Literature Review and the completed Theory and Methods Study program form.
