The growing importance of artificial intelligence (AI) has captured the attention of popular media, academics, politicians, multinational businesses, and others. It represents a significant shift in both the capabilities of and our relationship to information technologies. These new challenges and possibilities have prompted vigorous discussion and debate within policy and academic circles on ethical development and deployment of AI. This course will examine AI and public policy through understanding how AI is developed, the ways in which AI is deployed, how AI both impacts and is impacted by public policy, and the potential effects of AI on society.
